Preparing for the Pandemic Flu (H1N1)

The flu season is rapidly approaching, and we expect that there will be some effect on employees and their families. While the impact to our business is hard to predict, some common sense and advance planning can go a long way in minimizing any disruptions.

All of you, including your suppliers, are an integral part of our supply chain that ultimately supports our customers need for assured communications. Included among those are our war fighters and international partners who are depending on our technology to help them accomplish their mission.

With these customer needs in mind, we believe it is important for all of us to take steps to ensure our supply chain is thoroughly prepared to respond to any impact of the Pandemic Flu. Please consider adding the following items to your emergency preparedness plan (if they are not already included):

  • Communicate with all employees and your supply chain on the importance of maintaining continuity of supply to our mission
  • You will receive a separate request for information from Harris regarding the state of your preparedness. Identify your supply chain partners critical to the success of your mission and evaluate their preparedness
  • Communicate any changes to your ability to support commitments as soon as you identify increased risk of disruptions in your operations and supply chain
  • Ensure backups are available in critical processes and tasks (cross-train employees where necessary)
  • Develop staffing contingency plans (consider remote secure access where practical)
  • Communicate broadly the importance of general health precautions (Refer employees to the CDC website; http://www.cdc.gov/ or the World Health Organization website: http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/en/

We know this could potentially be a very difficult flu season, but with our combined efforts and due diligence throughout the supply chain, we can dramatically minimize the impact. Thank you for your support and attention to this matter.

Please direct any questions or concerns to you Harris supply chain contact.

Message to all RF Communications Suppliers

“As of February 1, 2009, all suppliers are required to participate in the HPQP (Harris Part Qualification Process).  We fully expect that suppliers will focus resources on upfront quality planning, and the quantitative assessment of process capabilities as they relate to Harris RF Communications Division design specifications.  The HPQP standard is found in  documents RFCD_HPQP Process and RFCD_HPQP Workbook, which are consistent with the AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group) APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning and Control Plan) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).

Any question concerning this requirement please contact your commodity manager  or buyer.

Message From Leon Shivamber

Dear Supply Partner and Harris Colleague,

It's hard not to be depressed when listening to the daily barrage of negative news. These truly are tough times. But, I would like you to take a moment to reflect on a few thoughts:

o       Tough times create lots of  unique opportunities

o       We manage this business prudently, with our values guiding everything we do

o       Our values, Integrity, Collaboration/Global Inclusion/Teamwork, Personal growth and fulfillment, innovation, delivering customer value and in a results oriented environment, have never been more relevant.

So what should we be doing?

o       Let's focus our energies on capitalizing on the opportunities. By doing so, we can build a brighter future.

o       Look for creative ways to help us operate, and deliver products/services better, faster, and at lower cost.

o       Embrace collaboration and teamwork to create innovative solutions that differentiate us.

o       Aggressively seek out win-win-win solutions. Remember, when we create value (better, faster, lower cost) for our customers, we win more of their trust and business, we will grow, and so will our strategic supply partners.

We have come a long way, but there is still a lot yet to be accomplished. Stay focused!

Cheers!
